The CRAAP Test

The article I chose to review was “Through the fires of hell: The Dekulakization and Collectivization of the Soviet Mennonite Community, 1928-1933”. The piece was published in “The Journal of Mennonite Studies, volume 16” in 1998. The article does not need to rely on being “current” as it is addressing an historical event which initially began nearly 87 years prior, with likely all information about the time period having been in public access through various government, business and personal records. That stated it seems unlikely that that particular information will ever have any major updates.

The author of the piece is Colin P. Neufeldt,  a Canadian history professor at the Concordia University of Edmonton, in Alberta, Canada, which gives him credibility as a scholarly source. The information provided in his article cites numerous other records, be them public or scholarly, about statistics involving populations, transportation and agricultural records which are also credible sources to build his arguments, which also correspond with other scholarly articles.

The information exists to educate people about different social ideologies which have gripped powerful nations in not-so-ancient history and is typically undisputed as factual.
